The buffer zone in Cyprus is 3% of the whole island territory. My suggestion is to create a forest there, where it will generate oxygen for all inhabitants, and give refuge to wild life.

The buffer zone in Cyprus is 3% of the whole island territory. My suggestion is to create a forest there, where it will generate oxygen for all inhabitants, and give refuge to wild life. Even if a third of the bufferzone undergoes (re) forestation, it is still an additional 1% of the whold island territory. This will also contribute in figthing climate change and dissertification on the island.

The campaign can be extended in the join efforts reforestation of the existing and former/burned countryside areas and mountains. Reforestation and cross-division contribution of people and resources towards this effort can even be a suggested confidence-building measure.

It does not matter on "which side" reforestation will take place, as Cyprus is so small, that the benefits will cross to the other side any way :).

There is a lot to discuss.

This initiative should go straight to authorities and leaders, and receive international support: it does not matter the ethnic origics, juristrictions and the usual crap: this is beyond politics and beyond all of that.

Let's start talking about greening the buffer zone, and the rest will follow and can be done in parallel. Already there are initiatives ( https://www.facebook.com/100KtreesinPaphos and https://www.facebook.com/300KTrees in Cyprus), so let's give it a boost :)
