Proposal code: Pusula / Ππούσουλας-2020-05-117

Teaching pre-school kids (ages of 4 -5) about love of nature and gardening at home

While staying home, children of preschool age will own a vegetable sapling (that they will name themselves). While at it, kids will learn how to take care of the vegetable sapling, take responsibility and provide necessary care, watch it grow, and harvest its crop and learn that this is something they can easily achieve at home.

1.Stage: Creating a digital platform - The schools will share photos and videos that kids will take with their vegetables on this platform (each post will have a score). The schools and families will be the members of this platform. Everyone will be able to see the scores of each school and which one is ahead. The winning criteria will be based on voting and likes.

2.Stage: Invitations will be sent directly to preschools or to the relevant state institution. The kids will be able to participate in the Platfrom through their schools.

3.Stage: A teleconference or meeting is held with representatives of the schools. This will help identify the number of kids participating.

4. Stage: 2 vegetables are sent to each kid. (In each vegetable bucket, there is a note with the kid's name and the name of the project - advertising the Platform).

5 Stage: The schools explain the project to the kids and saplings are distributed.

6. Stage: By the end of each weekend, photos of saplings are uploaded under the school section of the Platform and schools receive their points. (By the end of each month, the winning school is showcased on the Platform with their basket of ornate vegetables and fruits).

7. Stage: At the end of the first month, the top 3-winning schools receive a vegetable and fruit basket gift.

8. Stage: This project is implemented for 3 months and publicized on the media.

This pandemic has taught us once again that we need to eat healthy, no matter where we are. It also revealed how much humankind has damaged nature and that we have to come into terms with it.

This project aims to help kids realize that we do not necessarily need to have fields or gardens to grow a vegetable. Instead, they can do this by using a pot in their homes. As the adults of the future, the kids will learn that they can grow their food at home, support local producers, respect food and internalize nature's importance to human beings.

The competitive environment is only aimed to stimulate energy among the participants of the project. Kids who see their peers take care of their own saplings will be more responsible for theirs.
