AbleBook was created to allow people with disabilities and vulnerable groups to be an active part of society and to have equal opportunities
Imagine you're anxiously waiting for a dinner you booked at least a month in advance. The venue is one of these new type 'fusion' restaurants and to make a reservation it took the mediation of a colleague. The dinner will be attended by dear friends with whom your schedule is aligned only a few days a year. When the coveted night finally arrives, the team meets at the restaurant only to discover that it does not provide wheelchair access and therefore it is not appropriate to accommodate you and tell you your news there, gossip and laugh as you so eagerly awaited to do. But how would you know?
The solution to this problem comes with AbleBook, an online platform that allows public and private organizations and companies to list the services they offer around people with disabilities and thus be readily available to people in need. People with disabilities will thus have the opportunity to plan their way out of the city perfectly. For example, indicate spaces that provide wheelchair access, count the available disabled parking spaces and indicate all routes accessible to wheelchairs or, if necessary, public transport within the city. The services we envision to offer through the platform do not stop at entertainment but also include all available benefits, public services and businesses, and future employees to overcome any barriers to disabilities.
This application will significantly facilitate the lives of these individuals by offering them all the necessary information they need in their daily lives. In this way we facilitate the active participation of people with disabilities in society.
An initial Application of AbleBook has already been made available to the public through our website (www.ablebook.com.cy). Our website includes a list of applicable laws and benefits available for people with disabilities. In addition, we have entered into an agreement with all the municipalities of Cyprus who have provided us with a list of all public parking spaces for the disabled, which we have included in an interactive map, namely AbleMap. This is, to our knowledge, the first online mapping of this service in Cyprus
To expand the services provided through AbleBook and AbleMap, we have decided to transform AbleBook into an independent platform that allows service providers to record their services, interact with existing smart city platforms, and make this information available to the general public, including smart tools
